Butternut Pumpkins

Before we went away last weekend I hastily picked the 3 biggest butternut pumpkins just in case the excessive heat decided to prematurely cook them on my behalf.

I'm happy if this is all I get from the plant but the smaller two pumpkins left on the vine seem to have survived the heat-wave (I was able to lift them off the concrete onto the garden bed where it wasn't quite so hot) so I'm hopeful they'll continue to grow to a reasonable size.

Overall I think the garden has survived the heat-wave without *too* much loss and now that it's over I need to start thinking about what I'm going to plant when in preparation for a winter harvest.

Hey Lightening! Butternut pumpkins look yummy but I have yet to try any (not available where I am). I think you are VERY creative and I am very impressed that you manage to keep 3 blogs and all of them are so focussed! Love reading your blogs. :)

They are yummy! Especially in pumpkin soup - very creamy. :)

Thanks for your kind words on my blogs. Some weeks I do better than others at maintaining all of my blogs. :)

Your first paragraph reminds me of the old joke--It's so hot here the chickens are laying hard boiled eggs.

Not sure if you're having milder-than-usual autumn weather but you can try planting out some late season vegies ie all leafy greens from the cabbage family, peas, beans, etc. They should be established well enough before any chill weather starts to bite.
Love the pumpkins, well done :D
