Floriade

Given we were in Canberra during their Floriade festival, we had to make the time to visit while we were there. Fortunately for me, DD was very keen to see the flowers so it was an easy choice to make time to go.

While the flowers were beautiful (although flagging a little in the heat), I was a little disappointed with the layout of the garden beds. The idea of creating pictures from films was brilliant. However, it wasn't easy to pick out the pictures in the garden beds, especially from the height of a child. It would have been wonderful if they'd created a couple of viewing platforms where the beds could be seen from above and I think that would have kept our children's interest longer.

They were just beautiful. If only I could grow tulips here!!! I can't say that I've been met with great success when it comes to flowering bulbs. Not yet anyway.

This garden bed was one of the easiest to make out because the design came up out of the garden bed. It's a wedding dress from Muriel's Wedding:



Ignore the bouncy castle in the background. Floriade may have been free to get into but you could sure chew through some dough there if you were so inclined. We weren't (it was getting toward the end of the holiday and money was flowing through our fingers fast enough without any help) and only bought 1 ice cream each (the cheapest we could find which was still $1.50 for a Paddlepop) because it was rather hot the day we went.

This was another one that wasn't too difficult to make out - being a piano keyboard. Although it was actually easier for the kids to make it out through the lens of the camera than looking directly at it.


And here is my beautiful girl with some beautiful flowers. They almost look plastic don't they? They're not. I have no idea what they are though. Anyone know?


So, there you have it, a little peak into the flowers from Floriade 2008. I hate to think how many hours of work went into preparing and planting all the garden beds. It truly is an amazing site to see!
