I'm a self confessed shopaholic. My biggest weaknesses would have to be stationery items and kids books and toys. Followed closely by children's clothing. I'm not so big on shopping for clothing and accessories for myself. I don't mind it if I'm in the right mood. But I wouldn't say I "over shop" when it comes to these things.
Yesterday I discovered a whole NEW obsession when it comes to shopping. Gardening shops!!!!! Here we just have a small gardening section as part of our local hardware store. Since I wanted some seedlings I haven't been able to get locally (in either seedling OR seed form) I visited a gardening store while we were away.
As I walked in, I could feel my pulse quickening. The sights and sounds and smells were all calling to me. Begging me to walk out with a truckload of stuff.
Fortunately for my hip pocket, I had left DH in the car with the kids. So I only had 2 hands and around 3 minutes to find what I needed and get out of there.
It took some doing, that's for sure!!!!
But, I was victorious and walked out with 2 punnets of seedlings, exactly as planned. Go me!!! :)
Now, the garden is supposed to HELP with our budget, not drain it.
I can see that is going to take quite a bit of self control! :)

ONLY 2 punnets!!! I truly admire your self control.
Yes, a job well done!
We ALWAYS manage to come out of Bunnings (for example) with the 2 bags of Richgrow we went in for or the bunch of garden stakes.... AND some new seedlings, some new pots or containers, some kind of garden tool or accessory & an empty wallet! It is so hard to follow the plan of getting ONLY what you went in for.
Even though I am the female in the relationship, ShadowKnight is the guilty party when it comes to the Garden! Hehe.
I have a couple of fav seed suppliers which I enjoy shopping online with & use one website for seedlings & established plants.
Jeanie - thanks! :)
Socko - LOL. I can well imagine how easy it would be. I would love to know where you purchase from online.
Well done for being strong in your buying!
I (almost) always end up buying waaaay more seed packets than what I originally went in for lol...but they look so scrumptious on the packet, how can I resist?!
I've started saving my seeds, extra bit of frugal-ness helps every bit ;)
Don't worry, the garden will be helping your budget as soon as those seedlings grow to maturity. After all $2 or so for half a dozen cabbages or 6 tomato plants which will in turn supply you with many kilos of tomatoes is not exactly wasteful spending. Flowers? Food for the soul.
If you want to give your young gardeners an experience they will never forget, consider having them grow a TickleMe Plant. This is the plant that will close its leaves and lower its branches when you tickle it. They sprout in days and can be grown indoors any time of year. Just Google TickleMe Plants or go to www.TickleMePlant.com for seeds and growing kits. This plant has turned many kids into plant and nature lovers. I know, because I grow TickleMe Plants in my classroom. Your children may never look at plants in the same way and neither will you!
Happy Growing,
Mark
River - that's a great way of looking at it. Just don't want to spend all my "savings" unecessarily.
Mark - thanks for sharing that. They look fascinating.
